Vikki and Glen celebrated their wedding with us on Monday 25th July, with 40 of their closest friends and family.
We ask all of our couples to complete a questionnaire following their wedding so we can learn a bit more about them and receive some feedback from their day! Answers shared below…
- Could you share some details on how you first met and the engagement?
We met online in 2011 via an online platform for people going to the same University or studying the same course… we ended up not going to the same Uni and not studying the same course. Since the initial message we kept in touch ever since, which eventually led to us officially getting together in 2013, getting engaged in 2014 and finally marrying in 2022. We were long distance for the first 3 years, Glen being in Newcastle and me being in Wallasey, only seeing one another once or twice a year. Glen proposed along the Albert Docks in Liverpool, overlooking the water and where I lived at the time – it was honestly perfect! He carefully selected the best spot, before getting down on one knee. I, of course, said yes and we went to an Indian restaurant on the waterfront.
- What first attracted you to The Parkmore Hotel?
We were looking for a budget-friendly venue where we could host the entire day and that had availability ASAP. Glen’s grandad isn’t in the best of health, and it was important to us that he could see us get married. His grandad also would not have been able to make it to and from different locations, hence the desire for the entire day to be in one place. We looked at the venue and various photos online before emailing to enquire further – the venue is gorgeous BTW! Becky was another huge selling point for this venue – she is the most friendly, helpful, approachable, accommodating, non-pushy and professional person I have had the pleasure of working with throughout the process of viewing, booking, and arranging all the details.
- We’d love to hear a bit about your décor choices, food, drinks, entertainment, etc.…
Our theme was lilac and gold and we chose the classic package offered by The Parkmore Hotel. The food was lovely and everyone commented on how much they enjoyed it and how friendly/helpful all members of staff were. We chose to upgrade the evening buffet and there was a wide variety of options to choose from. The Parkmore were also very accommodating of all dietary requirements from numerous guests.
DJ & Disco was included in the package from The Parkmore Hotel (giving us one less thing to try organise) and was provided by Chris from Magnum Entertainment. Chris went out of their way to find songs for our niece and happily repeated a song when Glen and I got called away mid-way through.
Decorations were provided by Special Events North East and we chose: the starlight backdrop (truly beautiful), flower centrepiece for the top table and registrar table, lanterns with flowers for half the tables and hoops with greenery for the other half of the tables, a letter box (unbelievably useful!), gold and lilac bows on the chairs and lanterns lining the sides of the walk down the aisle. We also provided gold heart table runners and lilac and gold heart sequins which the team managed to incorporate seamlessly. There was a beautiful cover for our cake table
Flowers were artificial (so we could keep them and due to allergies) and were provided by Purple Orchids. Maria did a splendid job of incorporating lilac and gold into them!
- Tell us about your favourite wedding photos…
Our photographer was Lee from Sophotogenic Photography and we would recommend him to anyone! We haven’t got our professional photos back just yet, but at present our favourite phots are the more candid ones, such as where Glen and I are looking at one another. The fountain out the front makes for some gorgeous photos, alongside the courtyard. Inside there are so many beautiful places for pictures e.g., the stained-glass stairway and the large open reception area.
- Do you have any wedding planning tips for future couples getting married at The Parkmore Hotel?
Do your research but trust your instinct and stick with it. As we only had 3 months from time of booking until we got married, we didn’t have time to swap and change and second guess ourselves. You know what you want, so find people that support your vision and are happy to help accommodate in whatever way they can.
- Would you recommend The Parkmore Hotel to other couples? And if so, why?
YES! The venue itself is beautiful and has the added bonus of being easy to get to – we had people travel via car, bus, taxi and train. We especially liked the fact the venue could facilitate the entire day and were exceptionally quick at responding to queries via email, but also weren’t at all pushy. All members of staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. We both stayed the night before (in separate rooms) which meant I had the bridal suite to get ready in the following morning with my bridesmaids and flower girl. We had food in the restaurant the night before and morning after, alongside the wedding breakfast and evening buffet and it was truly lovely! Everyone passed on their compliments regarding the venue, the staff, the food and the overall atmosphere.
